The Stix Chix are so excited about A Verb for Keeping Warm! We are one of seven retailers in the country to sell this hand-dyed yarn. Read more about their dyeing and concept here.

Two yarns came in today: Metamorphosis and Floating. Metamorphosis is a merino and silk sport weight yarn with 385 yds per skein and Floating is an alpaca, silk and cashmere fingering weight yarn with 400 yds per skein.”

We can’t decide what to do with this yarn first. Either a High Road shawl or an Arcadian Shawl with the fingering. And maybe a cowl to go around my neck, a Grand Lake around my shoulders or maybe the Flutter Scarf.

This is seriously yummy yarn. We are so pleased to have A Verb for Keeping Warm at Stix!

Knitted graffiti, also known as “yarn bombing”, is currently achieving global fame in the media. The Stix Chix certainly have enjoyed this warm and friendly kind of vandalism (see photos below). We’ve already covered our stair railing and we have BIG plans to plaster other Bozeman landmarks in handcrafted cozies (more on that later). But surprisingly The Chix aren’t the only ones to embrace such fiber themed artistic expressions. Toyota, for instance, commissioned Austin based artist, Magda Sayeg, to knit a Prius cozy for an ad campaign that ran last Christmas. Sayeg has since been hired by many other big companies to create similar large scale knitted pieces.

The New York Times recently published an article about this new craze after an artist crocheted a cozy for the bull statue that resides on Wall Street last December. The article features the story about the Prius cozy and others about fiber artists creating public knit and crocheted cozy art.

Read the article…

Join us this Saturday morning (June 18) from 10:30-12:00 for the first installment of the Square-a-Month afghan knit or crochet-along. Once a month we will begin a new square, and then assemble the squares into a unique, personalized afghan once the pieces are complete. Each month’s design will be based on a different skill, using versatile stitch patterns which can be used for many other applications. We will be meeting officially once a month to begin a new square, and meeting informally on other Saturday mornings to work on the monthly square.

There will be both a knit and a crochet square pattern available each month. You can make as many squares as you like to make your blanket whatever size you like. We are making ours with a yummy combination of Malabrigo Rios and Berroco Vintage, both washable worsted-weight wool/blend yarns. This month the pattern is for a knit Double Basket Stitch, or a crochet Basket-weave.

We would love for you will join us to begin making your own lovely heirloom blanket. Stop by to see the square selection this month or to pick up your materials. If you purchase materials for the blanket, there is no charge for the instructions. If you would like to use yarn from your stash, there will be a $5 fee for each pattern installment (includes both the knit and crochet instructions). You can decide from month-to-month how you would like to participate. Hope to see you here on Saturday!
